Pendant Water Drops on the Outside of a Cylinder
Presented by Todd Wolford
This talk was motivated by the question - what is the optimal angle of a desert plant’s branches for conducting water to the base of the plant? We have been modeling the growth and stability of water on the bottom of a cylinder. The talk will address the construction of the model. Some results on quasi steady-state growth of water drops will also be presented. Future work will look at when and how a steady state shape loses stability (i.e. the behavior as the drop begins to fall off the branch).
