Only users in LDAP-group book-man can add items to the database. You do this by selecting the Add/Modify Item tab then clicking on New Item at the bottom of the window. This will give you a new TCC_CN. Then fill out the rest of the fields and click Add Item at the bottom of the window when you are done.
NOTE: Do NOT write this TCC_CN on the item until the information has been successfully saved to the database, (just in case another person is also entering an item into the DB - the person first completing the transaction is the one that would get the number). Also, be sure to write this TCC_CN down on a piece of paper before appending the information to the database since you will need to write it along the top right hand edge of the item later (and the append operation clears the number from the screen when it is done!).
Once this menu item is selected a form will display the fields that need to be filled in. Most of the fields are mandatory (and so highlighted to indicate this) and must have an entry. Some of the fields have predefined values in them (these fields should be ``tabbed over'' if the values are correct, otherwise the correct value should be entered). Other fields are display only fields and are there to provide the user with some feedback (like the Book x of n fields).
The DESCRIPTION field is linked to the ISBN for that item and need only be filled in for the first item of any given ISBN in the database (subsequent items of the same ISBN use that entry). The description that usually gets written in this box is a paraphrasing of the release notes found on the jackets, or back cover, of most books.
The NOTES field is item specific and is linked to the TCC_CN for the item. The NOTES field is used for recoding notes like "Book Donated by so-and-so" or "Top RH corner of cover bent".
The field called "Home" is where the item resides when not checked out. This should be Speare 5 for items kept in the book cabinets behind the Help Desk.
