7.4   Getting back to US English and disabling Language Bar

Well, I finally got around to experimenting with this lovely problem.   The quick fix is to simply press <Left Alt> + <Shift> until the computer changes back to (US) English.   You may also have to prevent the Language Bar from being shown.

To prevent the Language Bar from being shown, you simply:

• go to Start -> Control Panel -> Regional and Language Options,
• click the Languages tab,
• click the Details button,
• click the Language Bar button
• then uncheck Show the Language bar on the Desktop.

The computers in Speare 4 allow for Chinese (PRC), Chinese(Taiwan), Korean, and Japanese language support (as well as US English).   Thus it's rather easy for a user to accidentally press <Left Alt> + <Shift> and change away from their native language.

Another way to disable the language bar is to:

• right-click the task bar
• select Toolbars
• de-select Language Toolbar.

To prevent this problem from happening for a certain user you can remove Chinese (PRC), Chinese(Taiwan), Korean, and Japanese language support from their profile (WARNING: this is an extreme step in that the languages, once removed, can not be added back into the profile).   To do this, simply:

• go to Start -> Control Panel -> Regional and Language Options,
• click the "Languages" tab,
• click the "Details" button
• then remove whichever Languages you don't want.
