It is a fairly common occurrence that a POP user tries to check their mail, and they either get the same message over and over, or they only see a certain number and never get anymore.
The problem appears to be the AV software on their machine attempting to block SPAM/UCE.
The solution is for the offending messages to be deleted from their mailbox. I normally do this for people while on the phone with them, but since I'm about to be gone, they need to do it for themselves.
Suggest they use http://webmail.nmt.edu/ to log in and delete all the SPAM email from their mailbox. Remember that if they have an mbox file then it will be used as the storage for all their mail via imap (i.e. they won't see things in their actual, system, mail spool).
