16.3   An MS Windows 9x Failure Mode

From Scott Bucholtz, Fri Apr 21 00:32:48 2000

Matt and I ran across a unique Windows 9x DUN problem.   If the user gets an "A device attached to the system is not functioning." (or something like that) error, have them go to Start -> Run and type in command.   If it gives an error, then one of two things is going on.   Either command is not in their path (in which case they've got bigger problems than dialing up to the TCC) or they don't have DOS on the machine (in which case they've got bigger problems than dialing up to the TCC).   Either way, this can be classified as a "not good thing".   Don't ask how long it took us to figure this out.
