Welcome to the Technology Transfer Support Group (TTSG) at New Mexico Tech (TECH). TTSG partners with the Air Force Research
Laboratory-- Phillips Research Site to facilitate the transfer of technology. Technology transfer enhances the growth of small
business, as well as increasing networking between governmental and non-governmental agencies. TTSG transfers technology using several
defined mechanisms. In addition, TTSG provides activities and programs to help communities relative to education outreach in New
Mexico, as well as in other states where the Air Force has a presence via contracts or facilities.
Highlights to Date
To date, the State's intermediary has supported the development of:
- Over 148 CRADAs
- Over 102 EPAs
- Over 20 technical assistance and interactions with states/labs relative to partnership intermediary development in their individual states/regions
- Over 899 Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) awards for over $250M for AFRL in over 40 states
- The AFRL's Education Outreach Program (123 New Mexico
public schools and over 39,000 students impacted to date)
- The AFRL's Equipment Donation Programs to educational institutions ($45M to date) in New Mexico
The State's intermediary, to date, has also developed and distributed over 50,000 promotional materials and brochures and, on behalf of the Air Force, has participated in over 35 state, regional conferences and symposiums.
In addition, the Carnegie Commission has cited the intermediary as a national model for tech transfer
partnerships. The Air Force's
highest award for tech transfer was given to AFRL's Phillips Research Site for their state/local government community/education outreach
(over 120 schools statewide) which is coordinated by the State's intermediary.

Air Force Research Laboratory
Headquartered at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, the Air Force Research Laboratory was formed October 1997 from the consolidation of four former Air Force labs and the Air Force Office of Scientific Research. Our goal is to create a more efficient, effective organization to support the Air Force's Global Engagement vision. Our streamlined laboratory meets the needs of the war-fighter commands and the Air Force Material Command customers efficiently and with reduced overhead. We have focused and integrated our core technologies to place AFRL in a major leadership role as the Air Force moves into the new millennium.
Mission
Leading the discovery, development, and integration of affordable warfighting technologies for our aerospace forces.
Vision
We defend America by unleashing the power of innovative aerospace technology.
Our Air Force heritage shows that technology is one of the fundamental ingredients that assures our Air Force maintains its position of recognized world-wide preeminence.
Directorates supported by TTSG
Space Vehicles
The directorate is headquartered at Kirtland AFB, NM, and located at the site of the former Phillips Lab (now called the Phillips Research Site or VS-West), as well as the site of the former Geophysics Directorate (now called the Hanscom Research Site or VS-East). The Directorate is the Air Force center of excellence for space research and development.
Developing space technologies that support evolving warfighter requirements is the Directorate's mission. Primary areas of importance include the battlespace environment, protection of space assets, space vehicle control, space-based sensing, space vehicle technologies (structures, power, thermal management) wargaming, and performing a variety of integrated space technology demonstrations.
