Providing Engineering and Technology Experiences to Students (PETES)
- Middle school students become mentors for their peers and elementary school students
- Air Force "Core Values" is a key component
- Established at the request of Senator Domenici's staff in 1998
- Pilot project included six students at one school
- Seven school participated in 1999-00, including Ruidoso, New Mexico
- Schools' investment --> $145K

- Students gain confidence by mentoring younger students and their peers
- Middle school students become mentors for elementary school students
- High school students participating in SPACE mentor and role model for middle and
elementary school students participating in the Mars Missions project
- Air Force "Core Values" is key component of program
- Student recruitment planned for transition stages (6th and 8th grade)
- For school year 1999-2000, 57 students from 7 schools participated in program
