Manufacturing Experts in the Classroom

In consultation with the Secretary of Education, and the Secretary of Commerce, the Secretary of Defense shall
-
Conduct a program to support activities of one or more manufacturing experts at institutions of higher education, including
-
Identifying education and training requirements of US manufacturing firms
- Assisting in the development of teaching curricula
- Teaching such classes and overseeing teaching by others
- Improving the knowledge and expertise of permanent faculty and staff
- Marketing programs and facilities of such an institution
- Coordinating activities with other programs conducted by Federal, State and local government, or any private or non-profit organization in their efforts to modernize United States manufacturing firms
- Applications shall be evaluated on the basis of merit, and should include demonstration of appropriate scale, sufficient quality, significant level of industry involvement, attention to the needs of US industries
- Financial assistance shall be for a period of at least two years and may not exceed 50 percent of the estimated cost of carrying out proposed activities, in no event exceeding $250,000 per year
