Drs. Julie Ford, Associate Professor of Technical Communication, and Clinton R. Lanier, Assistant Professor of Technical Communication, will be attending the 2008 meeting of the Council for Programs in Technical and Scientific Communications in Minneapolis, Minnesota this October. Drs. Ford and Lanier were invited to discuss the position paper they submitted regarding starting research centers within technical communications programs.

Dr. Clinton R. Lanier, Assistant Professor of Technical Communication, has been asked by President Lopez to lead the effort to redesign the NMT website by the end of the Spring semester, 2009. To achieve this, Dr. Lanier will use the resources of the Technical Communication program, drawing from among the highly talented students and housing the effort in Fitch Hall. The redesign will include a content management system, an attractive "store-front" intro page, and an easy-to-use and intuitive design. Contact Dr. Lanier for more information.

Dr. Clinton R. Lanier, Assistant Professor of Technical Communications, will be giving a presentation titled, "The Use of Comments In Computer Programs (As a Writer Sees It)" to the Albuquerque Software Process Improvement Network (ABQ SPIN), on Wednesday, June 18. The SPIN group was established in 1994 as a "forum for the exchange of software process improvement experiences and ideas." One of Dr. Lanier's primary interests is the improvement of software programs through better internal documentation. More information about SPIN can be found at http://www.abqspin.org/. On Saturday, May 17th, the TC program's own Dr. Lynda Walsh opened NMT's commencement ceremony with her very moving Proem.

Dr. Lanier to Attend Chautauqua on CS Communication Pedagogy

Dr. Lanier of the Technical Communication Program will be attending a Chautauqua titled, "Teaching Communication Skills in the Software Engineering Curriculum: A Forum for Professionals and Educators," at Miami University June 9-11. The meeting was created to address the communication needs of computer science students. One of Dr. Lanier's research interests includes helping programmers achieve better internal documentation to increase long-term collaboration. This interest will be further pursued next fall, when he will be teaching an English 111 section that is designed to support CS majors and enhance their knowledge of both communication and programming.
