In early June, after a long 9-month process, Dr. Lanier, Assistant Professor of Technical Communication, and his team of Technical Communication students launched the new and completely redesigned website for New Mexico Tech. The site uses the Joomla Content Management System as the engine that drives it, and supports over 30 distributed authors around the university.
“We wanted a dynamic, modern and interactive design,” said Lanier, “but we also wanted a system that would direct tedious updates and such away from a webmaster. Those types of tasks waste time and lead to wasted money.”
The new system allows each administrative office to update their own pages, which allows a web team to focus on marketing initiatives through the site.
“We are using the site to market specific research initiatives, recruiting agendas, and information dissemination. According to the analytics we’ve seen so far, the website is exceeding our expectations.”
