The New Mexico Tech Shooting Sports Club is sponsored by both the Student Association and the Physical Recreation Department. If you are interested in shooting sports, feel free to join us!

A letter from the president to all students:

Last year (2007-2008) saw a few changes to the Shooting Sports Club. We added several new spotting scopes and our air rifle attendance was up. We also managed to get several new shooting related books into the Skeen Library.

This progress will continue into the 2008-2009 school year. Like all other years, the Shooting Sports Club will have its weekly air rifle practices and monthly Civilian Marksmanship Program schools. In this upcoming school year, we hope to have a guest speaker (TBD) as well as possibly offer a concealed carry course through a certified NRA instructor. We will also attend some regional matches and schools offered by various organizations.

I was a Virginia Tech student from 1999-2005, graduating in the Materials Science and Engineering Department with my Bachelor's. Watching the events unfold on April 16, 2007 has brought up the issue of gun control, especially at the university level. Many schools would not even think of allowing a shooting sports club on campus, let alone be as supportive as NMT has been in the past. We look forward to enjoying the support from NMT and I encourage all of you to enjoy the unique freedom we have at this school, a freedom stripped from many of the east coast schools. The more people that become active with the Shooting Sports Club, the more voice we will have to fight senseless legislation and bureaucracy that we will have to stand against some day. To paraphrase the words of Arlo Guthrie- 'it might be sooner than you think.'

Sincerely,

Seth Price
President, Shooting Sports Club
