    Alumni and Former Faculty

We would enjoy hearing from you. Please keep us in mind and plan to attend one of our events, such as our alumni reception at the ATCE, playing in our 49'ers golf tournament, or attending our Langdon B. Taylor banquet (see our events page for event dates). If you would like to make a contribution towards our chapter, please let one of our officers know.

    Club Mission

The SPE is an organization that facilities the exchange of ideas and information between engineering professionals in the oil and gas industry, through publications such as the Journal of Petroleum Technology, and various conferences and meetings. The purpose of the SPE Student Chapter is to prepare the engineering student for their future careers in the oil and gas industry by actively participating in SPE-related activities. Such activities would help build the student's networking skills by interfacing with fellow SPE members, learn how to effectively share valuable knowledge by observing the examples of other SPE members in the industry and academia, and gain valuable organizational skills acquired during the process of running the student chapter. Our student chapter achieves these means by participating in and organizing various events throughout the academic year. The following are events that our student chapter regularly holds:

    • A kick-off barbeque at the beginning of the academic year to welcome back returning students and welcome new students,
    • Trips to the SPE Annual Technical Conference & Exhibit (ATCE),
    • Organize the annual 49'ers Golf Tournament, during NMT's legendary 49'ers weekend celebration (fall semester),
    • Organize the annual Dr. Chen Classic golf tournament and Langdon B. Taylor banquet (spring semester),
    • A goodbye barbeque at the end of the spring semester.

    Who Can Join?

Anybody can join the NMT SPE Student Chapter, and students with a current valid membership as an SPE Student Member may serve as officers in the club. Any students seeking a degree in petroleum engineering (or a related field) and carry at least 30% of normal full-time academic load may apply to be an SPE Student Member. The SPE requires us to have at least 15 SPE Student Members attending our university, so membership with the SPE is highly advised for petroleum engineering students (not to mention all the other benefits such membership comes with). Being a club member of NMT SPE and being a Student Member with SPE are two different things: the former allows you to participate in our club's activities on- and off-campus, while the latter allows you to participate (and qualify for discounts) in the SPE organization's various activities.
