Red-tailed Hawk, CA: Golden Gate NRA

Copyright (C) 1978 John W. Shipman.

This hawk was hanging motionless on the shear current that blows up the front of Hill 129, where hawk-watching in the fall is very popular. The bird was photographed while it rapidly sideslipped to try to pounce on one of the many voles that was playing on the grass below the railing where I stood. The lens was a Novoflex 600/8 follow focus rig on Kodachrome 64, 1/250 at f/11.
