Between Audio Stops 1 and 2, the northern end of the second flooded unit on the Marsh Loop. A mudflat on the far side of the water had a small but active mixed group of shorebirds.
Description: Mostly in the flat gray plumage, but some texture in the folded wing. Long straight somewhat thick bill.

Sandpiper, Western # @Bosque del Apache NWR
Ruff 1♀ @Bosque del Apache NWR
Description: Chunky build makes head appear small; short, quite straight, medium-heavy bill.
Seen through my scope at about 120-yard range at 80x for a minute or so. A well-known star attraction, one of two birds seen by multitudes yesterday and today. I left the refuge roughly one hour before Christopher Rustay found this bird yesterday, but had to prepare to perform in a chorus concert. I had to leave early again today for another performance, missing an incredible array of additional rarities including Elegant Tern, Clapper Rail, and Ruddy Turnstone, all of which would have been state birds. I hate it when my hobbies fight.
