Route 11:45, leave Socorro via NM-1 and Farm-Market Road to Oldenettel's. 12:45, leave Oldenettel's for refuge. 13:35, enter Marsh Loop. 15:10, work center road both directions, then Farm Loop. 16:20, leave refuge.

Fuji 400-24 loaded 2007-12-29T09:20, start frame 19. Last frames were Bushtit @LLO.
12:10, load Fuji 200-36. This roll had been loaded once before, then removed with no shots. [,10] Pyrrhuloxia. [11] cruddy record shot of mergansers. [,19] Cooper's Hawk.
14:40, load Fuji 100-36; set camera ISO to 125 for more color saturation. [23,30] Song Sparrow. Frames around [,30] bracket with 1/500 (exp-) and 1/250(exp=). 16:10, end roll, camera left empty.

Route Midday walk around Terry Lake, then at 12:30 around Turtle Bay.
Weather Lows under 15F the last three nights. Terry Lake frozen except for a hole only about 10m across. Turtle Bay mostly open, just a bit of ice on the south side.

Description: Both with white facial spots on otherwise brown heads. On one bird, its left-side facial spot was not quite filled out and crisp on the rear margin, but its other side, and the other bird, were round with crisp margins.

Film 15:00, load Fuji 100-36 into empty camera. 15:20, load VC 400-36. 15:35, load Fuji 400-24. This roll started off with a rare frame-filling close pass at the merganser, and the aperture was f/8 and possibly f/11 for depth of field. Later in the series went to f/5.6.
