Near the end of the pavement on Evergreen Drive, several houses have busy feeders. One of these had both Gambel's and Scaled Quail.

Vocalizations: When we arrived at Turtle Bay, there was an ugly, repeated noise emanating from deep inside one of the taller trees on the east side of the main clearing. It was an extremely dry, hoarse, coughing noise, which I transliterated as 'kyo' or 'kyow'. Fortunately, Gary Froehlich showed up and told us it was a Green Heron, one of a pair nesting in this tree.
Eventually we saw at least one of the two birds here.

Description: Yellow face with the "hood" curving around behind the eye. In this bird, only a short arc of the hood was blackish, and the face behind that arc was the dorsal green color.
