New Mexico Junior Academy of
Science Reading Competition
The New Mexico Junior Academy of Science is a subsidiary of the New
Mexico Academy of Science. Each year the New Mexico Junior Academy
of Science sponsors a paper competition for students in grades 6-12.
The competitions are held in conjunction with the regional and state
science fairs.
The purpose of the paper reading competition is to encourage students
to involve themselves not only in science experimentation, but also in
the communication of their work to others. There are two
divisions. The Junior Division includes students in grades 6-8,
and the Senior Division is for students in grades 9-12. Cash
prizes are awarded to the winners at the regional and state levels by
the New Mexico Academy of Science and the New Mexico Science Teachers
Association. Regional winners will advance to the state
competition, where the winner of the Senior Division will be invited to
present his/her paper to the American Association for the Advancement of
Science at a later date.
Teachers--please encourage your students to submit a paper by
agreeing to sponsor them!
