General Information

New Mexico Science and Engineering Fair is an affiliate of the
Intel
International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF)
and is bound by
the rules governing that organization. The
ISEF Rules for Pre-College Research: Guidelines for Science & Engineering
Fairs
are available online, or from your
Regional
Director. The fair is also a member of the
New
Mexico Activities Association (NMAA). Eligibility requirements
established by the NMAA apply to all participants. All
participants must adhere to
NMSEF Rules.
NMSEF is a non-profit program
hosted by New Mexico Institute of Mining & Technology (New Mexico Tech), an equal opportunity institution. Financial support for the Fair comes from New Mexico Tech,
The State of New Mexico, registration fees, and donations from a number
of foundations, as well as corporate and individual donors.
The expenses for the trips to the International Science and
Engineering Fair of the four state finalists and their sponsors are paid
for by NM Science and Engineering Fair.
EXHIBITOR ELIGIBILITY
To qualify for the New Mexico
Science and Engineering Fair (NMSEF), you must compete in one of the six
regional science fairs and be selected to
represent that fair at NMSEF. There is no minimum age limit; however,
students who will have reached their 21st birthday before next May 1 are
not eligible to participate.
DIVISIONS AND CATEGORIES
The fair is separated into
two divisions. The
Junior Division includes students in grades 6-9. The Senior Division
includes students in grades 9-12. Each division is further
divided into categories. Categories are taken from the
Intel ISEF list of established categories and subcategories.
Regional fairs may or may not choose to use all of these categories,
dependent on the needs of their areas. Please check with your
regional fair for the appropriate category listings.
