Constitution
The Student Association has a new constitution as of December 1st. The Supreme Court ruling on the new constitution can be found here.
(Please read the content of this ruling before making further updates to this webpage.)
The Constitutional Drafting Committee also provided an accompanying Letter of Intent to explain their decisions.
The committee was formed and given authority to draft a new constitution by an amendment resolution, which was unanimously passed by the Senate on November 5th, 2007.
The SANMIMT Constitution is divided into several parts: Constitution, Book of Law, Historical Record, Supreme Court Interpretations, and Senate Resolutions.
Constitution
(HTML)
This is the main governing document for the Student Association. The
Constitution outlines the jurisdiction of the SA Government and
establishes governmental process.
Preceding Constitution
(HTML)
This is the constitution as it has previously appeared.
Book of Law
(HTML) The Book of Law is designed to establish rules for governing under the SANMIMT Constitution. It lists the laws and referenda by which the SA Government operates. This is the old book of law and no longer in effect. The Senate has the option to ratify a new set of standing rules in the Spring Semester.
Historical Record
(HTML)
The Constitution dictates the creation of a Historical Record to log
amendments to the Book of Law and the Constitution.
Supreme Court Interpretations
(HTML)
Whenever the Supreme Court is required to interpret the wording of the
Constitution, the interpretation becomes a permanent part of the
SANMIMT Constitution, and is recorded here.
Senate Resolutions
(HTML)
The most powerful tool of the SA Government is the Resolution.
Resolutions are declarations of position made by the senate at the
behest of the student body. A senate resolution becomes a permanent
part of the SANMIMT Constitution, and is recorded here.
