The Queer Association of Socorro Area Residents (formerly GAF) is a club for gay, lesbian, and bisexual students at New Mexico Tech, as well as their friends, and anyone else in the Socorro area who is interested.

You do not have to be gay to join QuASAR.

QuASAR meets weekly and exists primarily as a "social" group, to provide a safe and friendly environment where people can interact. We have frequent parties, cookouts, and potlucks. The atmosphere is very easygoing, and there is never any pressure on individuals to be anything more or less than themselves. QuASAR does not practice "outing", or the non-consensual public exposure of closeted gay persons. Although some members of the club are politically active, QuASAR is not a political organization.

Below is our club's constitution, last revised in the Fall of 2004.

Constitution of the Queer Association of Socorro Area Residents

 Article I:  Statement of Purpose

Queer Association of Socorro Area Residents (to be referred to as QuASAR henceforth) is primarily a social group for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people and their friends.  The club provides peer support and information relevant to the LGBTQ community, and works to educate the community at large on LGBTQ issues.  Qualities we stress are friendship, community, communication, and inclusion.

"PRIVACY PRIME DIRECTIVE" - We shall conduct our business in such a way that does not put any pressure on anyone to be "out".

Article VI:  Amendments

This Constitution may be amended at any time provided the request for amendment is approved by a two-thirds majority of the voting members at a regular meeting.
