Faculty Information for Test Corrections

What are test corrections?

Test corrections encourage students to form great study habits, attend tutoring sessions, and review the material they do not understand. It's easy! You upload the key to your exam on the OSL Canvas Site and let your student know when to come to the OSL. The OSL Learning Coaches will check each correction, indicating that it has been done correctly by initialing the correct answer. After all corrections have been made, the Learning Coach will print their name and the date at the top of the test. The student will bring you their corrected test to receive additional points (you determine the number of points they will receive).

How can my class participate in test corrections?

If you would like to participate in test corrections, or for more information, please contact Drea Killingsworth at drea.killingsworth@nmt.edu or leave a message at (575) 835-5174 and she will be happy to invite you as an instructor on the OSL Canvas site. Only participating faculty and OSL tutors have access to this site. OSL Tutoring Schedules for individual classes are available here.

The OSL can also provide tutoring schedules for specific classes and organize study sessions for exams. Please let us know what we can do to help your students succeed!

OSL Test Correction Procedures

Tutoring Schedules for individual classes are available here.

Schedules are available for each class tutored regularly at the OSL, and the schedules give times and locations for both OSL and departmental tutoring. These schedules can be given to your students so that they know when and where to go for both supplemental tutoring and test corrections.

Procedure:

  1. For all exams, Tutors will check each correction, indicating that it has been done correctly by initialing the corrected answer.
  2. After all corrections have been made, the tutor will write their name and the date at the top of the exam.
  3. If there are any errors or you find any problems with corrections, please contact the OSL and we will do our best to resolve any issues as quickly as possible.
  4. If tutors think that an exam key answer may be incorrect, they are instructed to have two other tutors to do the problem independently, and then contact the instructor with a polite email asking how to solve the problem.
  5. Please post the answer key to the Office for Student Learning Canvas site after the test has been given, but before announcing test corrections to the students.
  6. Upload the test key to the module for your class and name the document or file as such:
    InstructorClassTestNumber.pdf
  7. Example: SmithMATH103Test1.pdf
  8. If you have multiple keys for the same test, include this in the file naming scheme:
  9. Example: BrownMATH231Test1a.doc, BrownMATH2311b.doc

If you would like to participate in test corrections, please contact Drea Killingsworth at drea.killingsworth@nmt.edu or leave a message at (575) 835 - 5174 and the OSL will be happy to invite you as an instructor to the Canvas Site.
