ILL Is Now Online. No More Paper Forms!
http://illiad.unm.edu/illiad/nmt/logon.html
The Interlibrary Loan Department has completed the migration to Illiad, interlibrary loan management software. ILL patrons can now place requests, check item status, request renewal, and review their ILL history online. Establishing an account is easy:
From the Library Homepage, click the Interlibrary button at the bottom of the screen, select ILLiad, click "New Users", fill out the form, and place your request. ILL can no longer accept paper request forms, which the new system has rendered obsolete.

New Weekend Librarian for Skeen Library
Leigh Davidson, long-time education specialist with the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and, previously, with the University of Phoenix, has joined the Circulation Desk crew at Tech Library and is already a tremendous asset to library services. Hailing from Sabinal at the north end of the county, Leigh has a passion for both libraries and the sciences ~ a perfect match for Tech, where her son, Mitchell, is a senior in Petroleum. Ms. Davidson’s hours at the Library will most specifically cover weekends mornings and afternoons until 3: p.m. Reference service is again available at the Library on the weekends! Hurray!

Music and Performance Art Material
There is a body of music and performance art material held by Tech Library, which was once considered a best-kept secret. However, this collection of over 100 compact discs, videos and DVDs placed in the Library by Humanities professor Doug Dunston, has recently become much more accessible to our borrowers. Dr. Dunston has asked that the circulation period for this rich cultural fare be extended from two hours (i.e. watching or listening to the music in the Library) to "12-hours/Overnight" - a period of time which allows one to take the entertainment home for more relaxed listening.
Ranging from the 1958 film classic South Pacific, through a generous body of classical composers (including opera), extending back to Gregorian chant, the Dunstan collection is a broad offering of western music. You will find sleeves to these discs and cassettes in a bin just inside the interior library entrance, and Circulation Desk staff will be happy to access the items for you.
The library now owns a DVD player available for in-house use. Contact the Circulation Desk to sign out the DVD room.

Skeen Archives News
By the middle of December the papers and memorabilia of Joseph R. Skeen, who retired after 22 years in Congress, will have arrived at the library and will be stored temporarily in study room 9 on the lower level.
You may have noticed some construction on our middle and lower levels. On the middle level the office of Joan Shedivy, Information Literacy Librarian, will now be in room 114, an area which was formerly part of Interlibrary Loan. Look for her name on the door. You can contact Sandy Licata, Tom Irion and the ILL staff through the department’s window and door, which are now several feet to the right of its previous location. Tony Telles and the Periodicals Department office, formerly on the lower level, will move to the middle floor, room 116, in the Technical Services area.
On the lower level the former periodicals office will become the work room for the Skeen Archives. Our secure area for archives has been expanded to include a section formerly part of the map area.
The construction by the Physical Plant crews has progressed quickly with a minimum of noise and disturbance. Our heart felt gratitude to all Physical Plant employees who have worked on these projects.
Thanks to you, our users, for your understanding and patience.
Late in the spring semester, we plan an exhibit highlighting some of the unusual and interesting items donated by Rep. Skeen.

What Do You Need to Know About Copyright?
The library sponsored a series of sessions on copyright for the campus community on Nov. 12. Presenter, Thaddeus Bejnar, Lawyer/Librarian and Director of the New Mexico Supreme Court Law Library, described the five exclusive rights of copyright holders and the rights of the public under Fair Use. He outlined how to decide whether you need permission to use a copyrighted work and how to obtain permission. For more information, pick up a copy of his concise guide to copyright at the Reference Desk and consult these recommended web sites maintained by the University of Oregon and University of Texas.
