The New Mexico Tech student chapter of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) provides opportunities to connect with and learn about aerospace engineering. This student organization is associated with the national professional organization and participates in conferences and activities with the local Albuquerque professional chapter. AIAA sponsors several student design competitions, including the Design, Build, Fly competition for which there is a student design team in the department. The New Mexico Tech student chapter of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) is a great way to connect with other Mechanical Engineers through exciting events and competitions. This student organization is a local chapter of the largest professional society for mechanical engineers and provides a great way to network with the National Chapter through conferences and design projects. The student ASME chapter sponsors several events in the department each semester including tours of industrial facilities, picnics, review sessions for the FE exam, and organization of the annual Mechanical Engineering Golf Tournament. The New Mexico Tech student chapter of the International Society of Explosives Engineers (ISEE) connects students with interests in explosives to the industrial application of explosives. Club members are active with EMRTC and get to see explosives demonstrations first hand. The club also has had the privilege of helping out with several projects with the MythBusters TV show. The club regularly hosts speakers who are standout members in the explosives field. Members are from a variety of fields on campus, and welcome anyone interested in explosives.
