OBJECTIVES</b> </p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify">The Department of Mechanical 
Engineering at New Mexico Tech will produce Bachelor of Science graduates who:</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify"><br/>
<b>1)</b> apply the fundamental principles of 
science and mathematics systematically to develop and communicate solutions to 
engineering problems </p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify"><b>2)</b> consider 
the broad social, ethical, economic and environmental consequences of their work
</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify"><b>3)</b> are 
employed successfully in government laboratories, graduate schools, industry, or 
other areas of the profession </p>
<p class="MsoBodyText"><b>4)</b> have an understanding of the 
importance of life-long learning and professional development, such that they 
seek professional registration and demonstrate an ongoing desire to pursue these 
objectives</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify"><b>5)</b> have 
necessary backgrounds in engineering design and product realization</p>
<p class="MsoBodyText"><b>6)</b> are effective working individually 
and in teams.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><b>PROGRAM OUTCOMES AND ASSESSMENT</b></p>

<p class="MsoBodyText">Each Mechanical Engineering student will demonstrate the 
following attributes by the time they graduate:</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-indent: -.5in; margin-left: .5in">
<b>a)</b><span style="font-size: 7pt"> </span>an ability to apply 
knowledge of mathematics (including multivariable calculus, differential 
equations, linear algebra and statistics), science (including chemistry and 
in-depth calculus-based physics), and engineering</p>

<b>b)</b><span style="font-size: 7pt"> </span>an ability to design, 
document, and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data</p>

<b>c)</b><span style="font-size: 7pt"> </span>an ability to design 
and realize a thermal or mechanical system, component, or process to meet stated 
objectives</p>

on multi-disciplinary teams</p>
