Dr. Zagrai received a competitive grant

Dr. Andrei Zagrai, Assistant Professor at Mechanical Engineering received
a very competitive grant from the Air Force Office of Scientific Research
($260,000 for three years starting Spring 2008) for the project entitled:
"Nonlinear Structural Health Monitoring of the Responsive Space Satellite
Systems Using Magneto Elastic Active Sensors (MEAS)". This project is
aimed at developing structural health monitoring (SHM) and condition
assessment capabilities of the responsive space satellite systems. It is
anticipated that information provided by the SHM layer will assist in .Go.
. .No go. decisions pertaining the spacecraft launch. The engineering
efforts will focus on developing the innovative nonlinear acoustic and
magneto-mechanical impedance SHM methods for assessment of structural
integrity during spacecraft assembly and final testing before launch. The
proposed research will enable three graduate students and three
undergraduate students to receive training and gain knowledge in
ultrasonics, nonlinear acoustic, structural dynamics, material science,
scientific instrumentation, and engineering mathematics.
CONGRATULATIONS!!!
