NMT Fluid Mechanics laboratory is
primarily designed to meet ABET requirements and experimental needs for undergraduate and graduate education
Mechanical Engineering at New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology.
The laboratory has high-tech hardware and software tools which are used for both educational and research purposes.

Experimental setups include a pump lab, rheometers, viscometers, a wind-tunnel with Lab-View option, vertical and horizontal piping systems, and a porous media apparatus.
Commercially available CFD and solid modeling software packages are used by both undergraduate and graduate students for validation.

Areas of research interest include CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics), Fluid-Structure Interaction, Model Validation, Chemically Reacting Flow, Combustion, Fire Modeling,
Heat Transfer in Porous Media, Internal Combustion Engines and Alternative Fuels.
