We are living in the future

About a month ago, a CS grad student friend of mine came into my office with a very thin laptop with a wireless ethernet card plugged into it. On the screen was the typical windows dowloading screen. He said something to the effect of "It's gonna take my 8 hours over wireless, can I jack in for a bit". What really amazed me, was that he was holding, litterly on the palm of his hand, a computer that was downloading a Linux CD with absolutly no wires connecting it to anything.

Just today, I got a demonstration of Cort's robotic lawn mowers. I watched this rather small yellow creature follow around the edge of his front yard and then begin to corss the yard in a progressive triangle pattern mowing grass with little more sound then a household blender makes. Again, no wires, no pointing it in the right direction.

At this rate, I might just have a lightsaber during my lifetime. Now that would be a really usefull tool.
