PentiumIII/667, Slackware-7.0 Linux-2.2.16, Hauppauge WinTV(BT878), bttv-0.7.32 Xfree86-3.3.6 XF86_SVGA, Matrox Millenium G400, Adaptec 29160, IBM 10,000rpm 36Gig 4MB cache Ultra160, Creative Labs AWE64-Gold. and here are the problems I have run into so far... - maseq will not sync audio and video. no matter what settings I give it. however, mave will sync audio and video on the same clip. If mave can do it, why cant maseq? The sound starts right away, then the video starts about 2 seconds later. Then about 4 seconds in, the sound cuts out for about 0.5 seconds. This is on a 6 second avi captured with Macap. If I play just sound, it starts right away, and the timeline line follows as it should. The same goes for just video. It only fails when I play Audio and Video. - If I select "Audio Only" from the "Timeline Player", I get a "MainActor Sequencer Warning" saying "Audio device is busy!" - matool -f:MPEG-I -c:NTSC /sphinctite/kscott/kscott0002.avi /sphinctite/kscott/matool.mpg generates an mpeg with the mainactor wartermark even though I have the licensed version. mave and maseq do not generate watermarks. What's more, is that the mpeg generated by matool does not play well. With plaympeg (with SDL library from lokigames.com) only the first frame is shown and the audio runs normally. With mave, my entire computer locks up, and only an alt-sysreq-b works. - If I convert an AVI to an MPEG-I w/NTSC codec using mave, mave will not be able to play it. It completely locks up the computer if I try. plaympeg (with SDL library from lokigames.com) plays the mpegs just fine. any ideas? thanx From kscott@nmt.edu Mon Sep 18 23:51:09 2000 Date: Mon, 18 Sep 2000 23:51:09 -0600 From: K Scott Rowe To: Muzaffer Beygirci Subject: Re: MainActor-3.5.5 Linux Message-ID: <20000918235108.A14337@nmt.edu> References: <4.2.2.20000918120051.00a427f0@fw.mainconcept.de> <4.2.0.58.20000918145020.00ac1100@fw.mainconcept.de> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline User-Agent: Mutt/1.2.4i In-Reply-To: <4.2.0.58.20000918145020.00ac1100@fw.mainconcept.de>; from muzzi@mainconcept.de on Mon, Sep 18, 2000 at 02:55:37PM -0700 Status: RO Content-Length: 1909 Lines: 48 On Sep 18 14:55, Muzaffer Beygirci wrote: }Hello, } }At 12:00 18.09.00 +0200, you wrote: } }>I just installed MainActor-3.5.5 for Linux on the following... }> }>PentiumIII/667, Slackware-7.0 Linux-2.2.16, Hauppauge WinTV(BT878), }>bttv-0.7.32 Xfree86-3.3.6 XF86_SVGA, Matrox Millenium G400, Adaptec }>29160, IBM 10,000rpm 36Gig 4MB cache Ultra160, Creative Labs }>AWE64-Gold. }> }>and here are the problems I have run into so far... }> }> - maseq will not sync audio and video. no matter what settings I give it. }> however, mave will sync audio and video on the same clip. I was showing of MainActor at the local Linux Day exhibition at the University I work for, and ti got a lot of interst. I did, however, come across some more problems. I'll list them below. Any idea about fixing any of my previous problems? Thanx - Graphics don't show up in mahelp just looking at the help start page (/opt/MainActor/doc/english/index.htm) the alphabet graphics (gifs) at the top show up as a gray rectangle instead of boxes containing "A", "B", ... using netscape or kdehelp to look at the same file (/opt/MainActor/doc/english/index.htm) shows the graphics fine. In fact, while you move the mouse over the gray rectangle in mahelp you can see the next URL changing at the bottom of the screen (i.e. #index_a, #index_b, ...) and clicking on them takes you to the right place. But the graphics are always gray boxes. Also, the "Contents" and "Index" buttons (normally in the upper left corner of the page) don't show up with mahelp either. They do with both netscape and kdehelp. Poking around some other html stuff with mahelp, I cannot get it to display any graphics (gifs). - In the "Library" tab of the "MainActor Browser", the "Personal Audio Files" and "Personal Video Files" in the "Browser Classes Pane" both point to $USER/.mainconcept/library/video instead of one pointing to video and one pointing to audio. - I cannot "Insert Multimedia" a WAV file (RIFF (little-endian) data, WAVE audio, Microsoft PCM, 16 bit, stereo 44100 Hz) into the timeline. When I do, maseq just exists with a 0 return code, and no error message. }At 23:51 18.09.00 -0600, you wrote: }>On Sep 18 14:55, Muzaffer Beygirci wrote: }>}Hello, }>} }>}At 12:00 18.09.00 +0200, you wrote: }>} }>}>I just installed MainActor-3.5.5 for Linux on the following... }>}> }>}>PentiumIII/667, Slackware-7.0 Linux-2.2.16, Hauppauge WinTV(BT878), }>}>bttv-0.7.32 Xfree86-3.3.6 XF86_SVGA, Matrox Millenium G400, Adaptec }>}>29160, IBM 10,000rpm 36Gig 4MB cache Ultra160, Creative Labs }>}>AWE64-Gold. }>}> }>}>and here are the problems I have run into so far... }>}> }>}> - maseq will not sync audio and video. no matter what settings I give it. }>}> however, mave will sync audio and video on the same clip. I have sent you mail about several issues I have with the MainActor-3.55 for Linux. It occures to me that I have probably not been very clear about some of them. I am currently re-working them in more readable and hopefully more reproducable form. What I am wondering is if you have any sort of trouble ticket system (like gnats or bugzilla) that I can send these to. I imagine several small issues would be better then one large list of problems, and it sure would be nice if I could get some tracking information on such issues. Both MainActor 3.65 and 3.6.6(beta) hang while playing mp3s
after 1 minute and 35 seconds.  So far, all my mp3s do this.
I have tried it on two different machines, same thing.  The older
version 3.5 did not do this.

I'm getting a little frustrated. Have you had much luck in getting bugs acknowledged and resolved ? I took the liberty of CC'ing my last post to support to 'muzzi' and 'markusm' Most of the bugs i can work around, but some are frustrating, such as the purple/green flashes in output. For your info, the ones i've found are : (snippet from my post to support@mainactor.com) MainActor 3.6.5 : matool still includes watermark after registration (solved but not in an official release) : export to MPEG-I occasionaly includes purple/green flashes : export to read-only directory crashes maseq when export has completed (this is somewhat frustrating after waiting three hours for the export to complete, only to have it all lost) : macap crashes/hangs when AVI 2gb limit is reached : maseq can easily be crashed by moving too fast for it (rapid selection of options, esp those to do with the display of icons in the timeline) : maseq crashes when specifying the ~ directory in the save as dialog box : mahelp occasionally loads with the A..Z icons missing : export to AVI exports audio, but only the first video frame (which is repeated throughout the AVI) MainActor 3.7.4 : macap hangs/crashes at 2gb avi limit : export to MPEG-I includes green/purple flashes : ma* tools crash when KDE3.0 is installed (clash in Qt libraries) (work around is to use LD_PRELOAD) -- -- scottf@bigpond.net.au From scottf@bigpond.net.au Fri Apr 12 06:14:23 2002 Return-Path: Received: from cpe-203-45-183-53.qld.bigpond.net.au (CPE-203-45-183-53.qld.bigpond.net.au [203.45.183.53] (may be forged)) by mailhost.nmt.edu (8.12.3/8.12.2) with ESMTP id g3CCEItb014053 for ; Fri, 12 Apr 2002 06:14:22 -0600 Received: from kai (kai [192.168.2.4]) by cpe-203-45-183-53.qld.bigpond.net.au (8.11.6/8.11.6) with ESMTP id g3CC4k703235 for ; Fri, 12 Apr 2002 22:04:46 +1000 Date: Fri, 12 Apr 2002 21:56:40 +1000 (EST) From: scott fagg X-X-Sender: scottf@localhost.localdomain To: kscott@nmt.edu Subject: mainactor support follow-up Message-ID: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII Status: RO Content-Length: 213 Lines: 10 Thought you might be curious. support@mainactor did respond and i get the impression that they tried to reproduce each of the bugs that i mentioned that weren't previously known. -- -- scottf@bigpond.net.au
