General FAQ:

1. How is New Mexico Tech?

New Mexico Tech is small but good university specializing in science and engineering education and research. NMT is being listed as 'Best Value' institution in Princeton Review.

2. How is XYZ Department of NMT?

Each department in NMT is focused on lots of research activities. In order to get more detailed information about department specific, we would like to recomend you to contact individual department website and contact faculties in those department. That will provide very good idea for you.

3. What is scope of funding at NMT?

Well this is quite tricky and most asked question. But the answer is same as of previous question. Best place to ask for funding and stuff like is to contact concerned department faculty. They will help you and can provide better insight about availability of funds for individual student.

4. "I got 10 hours funding". Will that be suffecient for me to cover my expenses?

Well dear this is relative question and depends on individual person. If you are normal fellow then 10 hours funding is Ok for meeting your educational and other living expenses. We will however recommend you to bring some extra fund that you can use to support your living expenses. Now if you are leasurely spending fellow then you can get the matching extra fund you need.

Socorro is small and nice place will less expenses. So I guess you would not find much difficulty with nominal support provided by your department.

5. How would I contact my family back in India?

Generally most of the students use CALLING CARDS to call their home back in India. It generally cost from 5c - 14c per minute i.e. Rs. 2.50 to 6.00 per minute. Internet is best source to purchase these kind of cards.

6. Where would I stay when I would come for the first time to Socorro?

If you are in touch with INSA through email, then INSA generally arranges temporary stay for almost each member. After that you need to find your permanent accomodation close to campus on your own. 7. I got X score in GRE and Y score in TOEFL. What are my chances to get admission at NMT?

Contact respective department. Each department do have their own set criteria.

8. Can I do off-campus job?

As per US laws, international students are not allowed to work outside campus for the first year. Next year onward one can work outside campus after taking pemission from his advisor and department chair.
