Today's Rant:

"More Pointless Pontification" or "What else is wrong with us?"

Have I mentioned that I'm fascinated by the way my world view keeps changing? I probably have.

When I was younger, I thought that most of the people I knew were going to grow into a group of mostly sane, whole individuals. Not necissarily deep, or intelligent, but whole. Periodically you'd hear about little tragidies that were closeted in peoples backgrounds: a child lost to suicide here, a divorce there, a bout of alcoholism over in the corner, a boomerang on the shelf.

In the past year or so it's become apparent to me that, I think a lot of people, maybe even most people, have suffered or live in some crisis that prevents them from being whole. Some days it seems like we are in the midst of a massive spiritual cataclysm. I wonder if we have somehow made a huge mistake in the way we have made our lives and our communities so that we set people up for unrecoverable personal failure. So many people like broken soldiers that, having fought so hard, have discovered that they forgot what they were fighting for, or even worse, have simply found it unattainable.

In a former lifetime, I used to write stories through the eyes of lost people, but I don't have to anymore. Those stories surround me: the one whos life went empty with the nest, the ones who live at work because they fear failure, the broken hearted, the one who's given up, the one who has somehow managed to stop making sense to anyone.
