Yang’s Tai Chi Chuan (Taijiquan) is an elegant, moving meditation whose slow, flowing movements are performed with an emphasis on correct body mechanics and general of Qi (bio-energy). In clinical studies, Tai Chi has been found to improve balance and flexibility, reduce harmful stress hormones and manage blood pressure, yet Tai Chi is one of the most formidable Chinese martial arts, using softness and yielding to defeat an attacker with their own strength and exertion.

Wushu and Kung Fu are traditional Chinese martial arts that have played a significant role in China's history for more than 2,500 years. Students will be instructed in both the Northern and Southern styles of Wushu. Northern Syles implement unparalleled grace and speed into techniques which range from close-quarters fighting to aerial acrobatics and have become quite popular with the emergence of films such as Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Hero. Southern styles involve a combination of strong, stable postures with powerful strikes. Emphasis will be placed on self-defense and forms as students learn basic techniques that will improve balance, strength, endurance, and concentration. A versatile martial art, Wushu is exciting and fun for all ages and fitness levels.

This beginning-level course introduces photography as a medium of personal expression beyond its everyday use as a tool of documentation. Techniques studied will vary so that students can discover which methods best allow for a particular artistic vision, as well as providing alternate possibilities as their vision matures. In addition to the lecture and practical portions of the course, students will participate in short, weekly workshops where prints will be discussed and analyzed.
