Charles P. (Chuck) Campbell

Professor Emeritus of English, New Mexico Tech

Ideology of Technical Communication

A technical communication program should offer students experience with the kinds of situations they will encounter as professionals: working in groups, using visual design to enhance good writing, and meeting production deadlines. Technical communicators are better able to adapt to new challenges from acquaintance with good writing and with a variety of theoretical perspectives.

Professional Background

Dr. Campbell came to New Mexico Tech in August 1988 and retired in May 2000. He had previously taught technical writing at the University of New Mexico and the College of Santa Fe, as well as composition and world literature for the University of Albuquerque, Massachusetts College of Art, and Boston University. He also taught intensive courses in report writing for the American Management Association while employed for ten years as a technical writer and editor for Arthur D. Little, Inc., a large consulting firm based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where he won awards and bonuses for his work on proposals, films, and reports.
