Groundwater/Surface Water Interactions in Northern New Mexico

Project Location: New Mexico Tech

Project Leader: Dr. John Wilson

Project Description: This project contributes to an ongoing study of climate change effects on New Mexico's mountain sources of water. Students will investigate the interaction between groundwater and stream water using water age, chemistry, and temperature as "tracers" to better understand this important hydrologic interface. Students will be engaged in laboratory analysis in New Mexico Tech's chemistry labs and will also conduct field work in the mountains of northern New Mexico, including the Valles Caldera National Preserve.

Desired Students: Students majoring in hydrology, natural resources, environmental science, chemistry, or engineering are desired for this project. Students must be willing to work outside.
