Welcome to the CLASS Department at New Mexico Tech
Communication, Liberal Arts, Social Sciences
The CLASS department is the most unique department on the Tech campus. Combining academic fields from the Humanities and the Social Sciences, the department offers one of the few Bachelor of Science degrees in Technical Communication, distinguished by an engineering or natural sciences focus. The department also offers a Bachelor of General Studies, designed for students who wish to take advantage of Tech’s various courses. In addition, an Associate of General Studies allows a student to gain foundational knowledge in a variety of fields.
Most CLASS courses are taught by scholars in the Humanities or Social Sciences who maintain active research programs (click here for Faculty Conference Publications) in areas such as Art History, Communication, Creative Writing, Cultural Anthropology, Cultural Studies, Hispanic Studies, History, Literature, Media Studies, Music, Philosophy, Political Science, Technical Communication, and Women’s and Gender Studies.
In addition to our academic courses, we also have courses and programs designed to help Techies to develop creative abilities, critical thinking, and social issues awareness. We offer undergraduate and graduate writing and presentation assistance, you can participate in the music program, perform and maybe even publish poetry, or just come to listen to a variety of visiting poets and speakers.
