Lili came to us in 2008 from China. She is studying for her PhD and hopes to graduate from here in 2013.

She is a married lady with many interests such as reading history and poems, and singing, as well as practicing belly dancing. She hopes to learn to speak French when time allows.

Melissa received her BSc from University of New Mexico and began studying here in August of     2010 and plans to complete her MS in May of 2012.  She is a loving wife and mother and has two adorable children, Katie is 6 and Jacob is 4.
 
 

Asitha T Cooray

Asitha comes from Sri Lanka and started working  on his PhD here with us in the Fall of 2007.  His research is mainly focused on understanding the dynamics of iron in fresh water environments. and is also involved in developing analytical methods to quantify nutrients in natural waters.
Asitha is married, and he and his wife Mali, who is a medical doctor, are expecting their first child in November, 2011
 
 

Nicole Davidson

Nicole was born and raised in New Mexico!  She received her Bachelors degree in Biology & Chemistry from UNM and started working on her Masters at NMT in  Jan. 2011, and is  hoping to graduate from here in Dec. 2012.
Nicole recently got out of the Army Reserves, loves to swimming, baking and brewing beer. She is single, has no children and loves to travel.
 
 

Yaika Echivaria-Roman

Yaika hails from Puerto Rico where she attended Universidad Metropolitana. She first came to NMT with the REU program in the summer of 2007 and came here to begin her MS with us in June of 2009 and  plans to graduate from NMT in December of  2012.
Yaika attended military school from K-9th and has been speaking fluent English and Spanish with family and friends for  most of her of her entire life.


Yaika is not actually a Chemistry Grad, but she does a lot of close work with our department and we're happy to include her in our list of Grad Students.

Sarah is originally from Fairfax VA, but came to study in New Mexico in August of 2010!  She is passionate about geology, biology, hiking, biking, running & camping!  In her own words she "LOVES New Mexico!"

She has a BS in Geology with concentration in Earth Surface processes.  She is doing Research on carbon cycling in the deep crustal biosphere in the Witwatersrand Basin, South Africa and hopes to Graduate in December 2012.


Sarah is not actually a Chemistry Grad, but she does a lot of close work with our department and we're happy to include her in our list of Grad Students.

Kenna Jackson

Kenna went to high school in Santa Fe and began her post secondary education at Centenary College of Louisiana. She started attending NMT in Fall of ’08 and her MS program here began officially in January ’11.  She plans to graduate in May of 2013. She works in environmental  chemistry and hopes to go on to get her PhD and become a college professor.
 
 

Daniel Leonard

Daniel graduated with a B.S in Viticulture and Enology from UC Davis in 2004.  He spent two years working in the wine industry in California and New Mexico, followed  by three  years in fermentation R&D with Novozymes Inc. before deciding to return to school for a graduate degree.
Daniel came to NMT by way of California and Oregon. His research interests include artificial photosynthesis, biocatalysis, and fuel cells.  
Personal interests: Surfing, Bonsai gardening, cooking, languages and travelling.

Nathaniel Martinez

Nathaniel graduated with his BSc from NMT continued on since June of 2010 to earn his MS      degree, hoping to graduate in 2012.  He doesn’t say a whole lot.  
 
 

   

Ranjith K Meka

Ranjith is from India. He started his PhD in 2009 and hoping to graduate by 2013. He works in Dr. Heagy’s group and is trying to work at the interface of Chemistry and Biology by designing fluorescent dyes that are useful in elucidating various cellular processes. He is  also interested in dual fluorescent dyes which are useful in making white-organic light emitting devices. He enjoys cooking and is hoping to learn playing guitar some day.
 
 

 

Munawar Khalil

Khalil arrived from Indonesia to begin his PhD at NMT in August, 2011. He does his research over at PRRC on the development of nano-catalyst for upgrading non conventional heavy oil, and hopes to complete his degree in 2014. He graduated his B.Sc from Dept. of Chemistry, Bogor Agricultural University (Indonesia) in 2007, and got his M.Eng.Sc. from Department of Chemical Engineering, University of Malaya (Malaysia) in 2010. He is a moviegoer who loves to play basketball. He is the youngest of the three siblings in his family.
 
 

 

Stephanie Nance

Stephanie came to us, cross country from Smith Mountain Lake, VA. In June of 2009 and plans to graduate with her MS in May of 2012 in environmental chemistry.   
She enjoys tennis and soccer and is in orchestra.
 

 

Oluwaseun O. Ogunro

Oluwaseun arrived in United States to begin his studies at New Mexico Tech in August of 2011.  He is from Nigeria and plans to be finished his degree by 2018.  
He is a passionate young man, filled with great verve for chemistry.  He is married to the beautiful Temilade, “his Tomelasty”

Isaiah began his MS degree with NMT in Fall of 2011. He comes from New Mexico Highlands and hopes to graduate in Spring of 2013.  
       
 

Ryan Shea

Ryan got his bachelor’s degree from NMT last year and began his MS with us this year.  He is a very dedicated student and can bake a GREAT cake!!
 
 

Philip Simon

Phil hails from Houston, TX  is interested in Analytical Chemistry & nanotechnology He graduated from  NMT with a BS in Geology in 1988.  He came back to continue his education in      the fall of 2009 after a career in reservoir tracing.  He hopes to finish his MS degree in Chemistry in the Spring of 2012.
Phil is a married man, with a lovely Russian wife, Lena. His hobby is  rock collecting. You can  see some of the rocks he has collected, in his yard across the street from the South end of campus.
