Materials used in Making Einstein : Wire

Wire was first used by the Egyptians as early as 3000 BC. It can be made of many types of metals including copper, iron, brass, aluminum, gold, silver, and platinum. All of the wire used in this project was steel. It is recycled by the city of Socorro with other "white goods". Four different types of wire where used to make Einstein.

Chicken Wire - Material used inside the head and lengths for structural support. It was purchased from local hardware store.
Galvanized Steel Wire - 24/22/20 gauge wires. Purchased from local hardware store.
Bailing Wire - Collected from rancher friends who reuse the wire to build fences and fix many things.
Hanger Wire - Used to string the tennis balls together. Collected from the city's cleaned uniforms. Hangers are not re-usable at the cleaners by state law. Locally, they are collected by THRIFTY. They are bundled and sold. Profits go to the Good Samaritan village and the Senior Citizens Program.
