Imagination is more important than knowledge. - Albert Einstein
Pens were chosen for this project because they are a symbol of imagination. Used writing instruments were collected in boxes around town at 13 locations. Nearly 1,500 used pens and markers were collected for this project. A thousand were de-inked, drilled and wired to make the tie. The remaining pens were wired to 8" floppy disks by volunteers from the Casa de Esperanza to make the pattern of pen- striped pants. Most people use pens to communicate ideas every day. It is estimated that Socorro alone discards 8-12 thousand pens per month. |
