Wonky Cats in the Sun

AKA "The Binkster's Friends Go to the Beach"

A QuiltSwappers Class taught by Leilani Pua

As interpreted in miniature by Betty Reynolds

Quilt is 16 x 22"

Being the student who delights in not following instructions, my quilt does not look like the Wonky Block examples. I didn't do applique--I started instead with six rectangles of cat print, 3 1/2" x 2 3/4". I cut my strips 3/4"-2 1/4" wide. After completing the blocks through the third round and trimming them up wonky, I added another round and straightened up the cats by wonking in the other direction. Even so, the cats are just enough off of straight to look like towels lying about on the sundeck.

I free motion machine quilted it using a variegated rayon thread, stippling, loop-de-looping and generally running all around the strips. Then I outlined the cats using clear nylon thread. I've embellished it with a few seaside charms and two tiny real sand dollars. Other than finishing the binding, this was a quilt-in-a-day. Thanks Leilani!!
