Katy Blakslee's Birthday Signature Quilt
A Quilt by Betty Blakslee Reynolds
Machine pieced on paper foundations designed by Debby Kratovil,, this
quilt is machine and hand quilted (70 x 78 inches, enlarged by
three more borders which do not show on this picture). There are 446 3"
signature blocks in the quilt, signed by over 450 family members and
friends of my mother, Kathryn
Blakslee, to celebrate her 80th birthday in
July 1997.

Here's Mom with her birthday quilt.

Here's me in front of the quilt wearing a T-shirt
with a picture of my mother at age 8.

And here are a couple of closeups.
Some gifts give pleasure in their viewing
Mixing colors and patterns and such.
Some gifts give pleasure to the touch
The fingers and hands tell so much.
Some gifts give pleasure in their message
Through a significant name or a phrase.
Some gifts give pleasure in their use
Through some pleasant emotion they raise.
This gift offers a variety of pleasures
Including all of those listed above.
A quilt made in honor of your birthday
Assembled with skill and with love.
Not made for display, but meant to be used
So your main pleasure will come in the end.
From being comfortably wrapped in your gift
Warmed by closeness of family and friend.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY
