News - June 4th, 2002

On Sunday we went the whole 26.2 miles! It was really fun, being there with more than 3500 other Leukemia and Lymphoma Society runners. We didn't go very fast, as Cathy injured her knee at mile 12 and we had to slow down a lot and walk some after that, but she kept going. It took us 5:54:44 to cross the finish line.

Cathy and I have raised a respectable $4597.12 for the Society. We still getting some last minute donations and they are most welcome, I'm still hopeful that we'll get close to our goal.

Thanks to all those who contributed to our effort. Team in Training raised over $12 million dollars for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society by this event.

Unfortunately, Cathy is still not in remission, but we'll keep fighting.

Last Week

5/27/2002 We ran 30.2 miles total, the longest run 26.2 miles. We have raised $4,472.32 so far, with $1,927.68 to go.

Our Commitment - December 17th, 2001

My close friend of ten years, Cathy, has been diagnosed with Lymphoma, a cancer of the lymphatic system. She has been in treatment and is fighting it the best she can. To raise money for research and treatments for all patients of blood-related cancers, Cathy and I are going to try to complete the San Diego marathon. I have never run more than two miles before, so I've got months of painful training ahead, but it's worth it to me for this cause. In order to do this as part of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Team in Training, we need to raise $6400.00. Why so much? To ensure that at least %75 of the money donated goes directly to researchers and patients.

Please Help Us!

You can help us get to our goal by sponsoring our marathon effort. This is the way to make sure we stick to our guns and run the stupid thing. You can do this purely for your sadistic enjoyment, or to help the cause. A typical sponsorship would be $1 or $2 per mile in the marathon for either or both of us. For example, if you give us:

$26.20 - one of us $1 per mile (for the marathon)
$52.40 - one of us $2 per mile or both of us $1 per mile
$104.80 - both of us $2 per mile

More is always welcome, but whatever you can scrape up would help. For perspective, some of the newer, more effective treatments cost many times what conventional chemotherapy and radiation does, sometimes $20,000 a dose! The newer treatments are much more effective and have fewer side effects. Donations like these have made it possible for Cathy to get some of these experimental new treatments. The new treatments have improved her quality of life immensely, to the point where she's willing to run this marathon (and convinced me to, too!).

How To Sponsor Us

We can do checks, cash, and credit cards. For cash and credit card, I need to do some paperwork to make sure that everything is happy with the IRS, so the best thing to do is call me or stop by. Please don't send me any credit card info over email. For checks, just make them out to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and get them to me somehow so I can fold, spindle, and mutilate them (actually I just bundle 'em and fill out a form).

Thank you very much for helping us!

News - April 10th, 2002

We didn't run much last week, but Monday night we ran 16 miles. Oh boy am I still sore from that one. However, we have passed the 1/3 mark at $2167.60 today in our fundraising, thanks to all of you that have helped us so far!

News - March 10th, 2002

Cathy has started a new treatment program. She is hoping to keep training during the therapy. Hopefully this time she will go into remission. Our running seems to be back on schedule, milage-wise, after some minor injuries. Twelve miles was hard!
