Socorro Bouldering Guide - Box Canyon - North Wall Boulders

Several boulders under and above the North Wall/Redwall bluff.

Goat Boulder

Goat Boulder is located just South and West of where the Box Canyon wash cuts through the narrow rock channel of Streambed, at the base of the hill where Red Wall and Corner Block sit. Goat Boulder has a vertical North face and undercut West face.

This humble boulder has suffered defacement at the hands of the NMT Geology department. There have been at least two incidents where lab TAs have hammered off holds with their rock hammers to the shock and dismay of climber geology students.

  1. Hot and Spicy Anal Lube - V4 (V4-V8) Peck 9/27/95
    The far left side of the North face. Sit start on sharp holds, and crank up and left to top out.
    Believe it or not, this problem is very appropriately named. Go try it if you don't believe me! Slick and painful.
  2. Milkin' the Billy Goat - V1 tall, scary, bad landing, crux at top Peck
    Middle of the North face. Long reaches between pockets and edges
    Classic.
  3. ? - V0 tall, bad landing
    Right side of the North face, the obvious line with big holds and a mantle partway up. Some looseness above.
  4. Feta Cheese - V2 tall
    Sit start on the Northern corner, on the far left side of the overhang. Go up the North side of the arete.

  5. Billy Goat - V3 (V3-V4)
    Sit start like Feta Cheese, then traverse the overhang left to right.
  6. El Cabrito del Dolor - V4 Barrett
    Sit start under the roof, then go straight up on crimps.
  7. Goat Throw AKA Reachy Thing - V2 (V2-V4)
    In the middle of the overhang. Sit start on a jug, throw to a slap, and straight up on nice holds.
