Department of Biology
Here at New Mexico Tech, the Biology Department faculty excel in teaching and research. Our professors receive grants from the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation and the Department of Naval Research to name a few of our funding organizations. Undergraduates are encouraged to get involved in Departmental research, which concentrates on the fields of molecular biology, microbiology, ecology, cell biology, and physiology.
The Department offers Bachelor of Science degrees in Biology, Biology with Environmental Science Option, and Biology with Medical Technology Option. Master of Science degrees are offered in Biology and Biochemistry. Specific coursework programs are available to prepare students for graduate work in the medical, dentistry, and veterinary sciences.
Career opportunities for Biologists are wide-ranging. The Department of Biology can prepare you for work in environmental assessment, drug development, medicine, forensic genotyping, microbiology, and bioterrorism, among others.
Graduates of the Biology Department have gone on to pursue their doctoral degrees, entered medical school, teach high school, work in the forensics lab of a police department, and work at some of the top biotechnology companies.
