Here at New Mexico Tech, the Biology Department faculty excel in teaching and research. Faculty members receive grants from a number of funding agencies, including the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation. Undergraduates are encouraged to get involved in Departmental research, which encompasses the fields of molecular biology, microbiology, ecology, cell biology, and physiology.
The Department offers Bachelor of Science degrees in Biology, Biology with Environmental Science Option, and Biology with Medical Technology Option. Master of Science degrees are offered in Biology and Biochemistry. Specific coursework programs are available to prepare students for professional schools in medicine, dentistry, and veterinary sciences.
A five-year B.S./M.S. program is available to qualified students. A program leading to a doctoral degree in Geobiology is offered in conjunction with Earth and Environmental Science.
Career opportunities for Biologists are wide-ranging. The Department of Biology can prepare you for work in environmental assessment, drug development, medicine, forensic genotyping, microbiology, and bioterrorism prevention and response, among others.
