CSI: DNA
Photos for 2009 Virtual CSI: DNA Writing Contest

IMPORTANT NOTE: These photos are supplied to give you an idea of what the crime scenes will look like in the Virtual CSI: DNA course. The Fidel student union atrium at New Mexico Tech and a forensics laboratory will be photographed and presented to the student as an explorable 3D virtual environment. It is up to you, as the writer of a CSI mystery, to decide whether the victim is male or female, what condition the body is in, what evidence is available at the scene of the crime (see the Guidelines for what is needed for DNA analysis), etc. You may choose either the atrium or the laboratory as the scene of your mystery.
Body in atrium
A view to a kill, from the third floor balcony. The outside doors are to the right, at about 2 o'clock. The stairs can be seen behind the spiral glass sculpture (representing DNA). The elevator is to the left at 9 o'clock.
Atrium balconies
Looking up from the atrium floor you can see the third floor balcony. In the background on the first floor is a cafeteria seating area. You may decide what items appear near the body (including blood), and on the tables.
Body in forensics lab.
A forensics scientist is found dead on the floor of her lab. A DNA analyzer stands open in the background. In the victim's hand is a pipettor, used to transfer tiny amounts of DNA.
Alternate body in forensics lab.
A possible alternate position of the body, still holding the pipettor. Was she preparing to run an analysis? Did someone want to stop her? Whose DNA is in the pipettor?
Closeup of pipettor
A closeup of the pipettor. Tiny amounts of fluid (like a DNA sample) are suctioned into the small plastic tube on the bottom (left) using the plunger on the top.
