Old business:
1. Dinner meetings: Teri talked about several dinners meetings during
the summer for which members paid with their own money. Examples of places ate
at are the Socorro Springs Brewery in Socorro Buckhorn Tavern in San Antonio.
2. Explosive demonstration: Camden and Graham described the explosive
welding demonstration done at EMRTC during the summer.
3. Coors tour: Teri described the trip to Golden, CO, taken the week
before school started. The Colorado School of Mines, Coors ceramic facility,
and Coors brewery were all visited.
4. Internships: Stephanie Smith related her experience as a honors
intern for the FBI at a lab in Conoco, VA. She had to learn about the "unit"
and FBI in general. She got to tour the Pentagon and White House and wrote a
paper about silencers that may be published by the Association of Firearm and
Tool Mark Examiners. Steph mentioned that the FBI will be at the career fair
in October.
5. Safety manual: Dr. Bond said that she needed all contributions to
the safety manual to be in by the end of September because the student forum
and advisory board will be meeting in October. All those "in charge" of these
writeups need to compile information about safety hazards concerning equipment
and chemicals in "their" labs. Do not hesitate to copy information from the Los
Alamos National Lab handbook which is in Norene's office. All those in charge
need to make copies of Materials Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for chemicals in
their labs and give them to Dr. Bond or Norene so that they can be put in a
binder and put in the library for easy access. Below are the students in charge
of the indicated labs:
Mohammad - Dr. Inal
Dominic - Dr. Hirschfeld
Ray & Joel - Dr. Bond
Robert - SEM
Margit & Mary - Dr. Fuierer
Dr. McCoy - Dr. McCoy
Shuwei - Dr. Majumdar
? - Dr. Burleigh
? - Dr. Lu
John - X-ray
New Business:
1. FUTURE MEETINGS - 1ST TUESDAY OF MONTH AT NOON IN JONES STUDENT
LOUNGE
2. Workday for carpet: Sunday, Sept. 7th at 10:30 am. Teri promises to

3. Periodic dinners: Everyone agrees that this would be great idea to
continue.
4. 49ers (October): Everyone okayed renting jackhammer and charging
people to break out one of Scott and Shannon's sample from a 2000 lb block of
concrete. Also, the notion of entering a float into the 49ers parade was brought
up. Everyone is free to make suggestions for floats and this is a great way to get
involved and have fun.
5. Shape memory alloy: Everyone is encouraged to help with designing and
making Christmas-oriented SMA shapes to sell this winter.
6. TMS/ASM/ACerS meetings: There will be carpools again to this semester's

Albuquerque one of these friday afternoons. Graham proposed going to a powder
coating facility in Albuquerque this fall. More details will given later.

pointed out that the sign-up sheets were due today. In any event, The Materials
Club may be encouraged to join in on physical activity this fall.
