Nothing to report

Vice President (Sam)
a. Sam, Lisa Salerno, and Matt Bush assisted Dr. Burleigh in running the Storm the Castle event for the New Mexico Science Olympiad. About 20 middle school teams competed to lob a ball at the cardboard castles Sam and Drew made, which were a hit. Students had a lot of fun helping.
b. Dr. Burleigh and Russ Maier will be doing School to World on the 10th. 600 middle schoolers usually pass by the demos. They need another helper.
c. Materials club will be organizing a team for Relay for Life on April 20/21 in Socorro. Combining with SA team. More info to follow.
d. Everyone should register for Material Advantage. $25 annual fee gives membership in ASM, TMS, ACerS, and AIST. Include free entry to conferences, access to scholarly journals and databases though societies’ websites, reimbursement for Tech chapter, monthly publication rotated amongst four societies.

2. Dr. Kalugin introduced himself as the new nanoscience faculty member in the materials dept. He needs students to work in his research group. Will be studying carbon nanotubes and other nanoscience phenomena. Student participation will include making electronic parts containing nanotubes. Looking for bachelors and masters students to start out, will expand to include PhD candidates as the group is more set up.

Old Business

Account Problems: The club account is $600 overdrawn because of January’s trip to Cocoa Beach. Three problems: rooms not booked with Travelocity because of server error and had to be booked later for higher price, no money came in for the trip, and the CFO of the SA did not clear the travel or sign the forms. CFO was unresponsive during early January because of chaos in the SA and no CFO had been appointed. Jeb Robbins motioned to form a fundraising committee to work on solutions. Some ideas: a. Nambé: Dan Lopez will call to see if we can use their powder b. Anodized aluminum keychains with Tech logo c. Shaper memory alloy hearts: more wire must be ordered d. Slip casted shot glasses with Tech logo e. Enginearrings: ½ inch Al bar stock cut into thin slices (earrings) and annealed to reveal grains f. Glass ceramic mugs
Sam motioned to table the issue to the next meeting so more members would attend and could be in the committee. Jeb seconds. Motion to table carries by general consent.

3. New Business

a. Soccer team: Club team Martensite will be playing both indoors and outdoor soccer. If more than the 12 on the roster play, could be disqualified. Ben Crowder mentions that it’s more important for all club members to play, even if disqualified. Schedules will be posted outside Cathi’s and Dr. Burleigh’s offices
b. Mud Bog: Club invited to help out with Mud Bog during Spring Fling to raise money by doing the barbecue. Lisa Christensen, Drew, and Jeb offered to help. More info to come at next meeting.
c. TMS Conference: Jeb, Lisa, and Christian Zwilineff went to TMS Conference in Orlando, Fla. TMS shooting for more student involvement/activities at meetings. Jeb went to the grad student focus group. Will have a career fair like at MS&T fall conference in next TMS meeting. Christian mentioned new website materialstechnology.org, an online technical community for materials professionals. Includes discussion boards, databases, research papers, and more.

4. Ben motions to adjourn. Jeb seconds. Motion carries by general consent.
