Jones Student Lounge
Meeting called to order at 5:10pm by Teri Dunn.
Minutes for meeting on February 2, 2004 were approved.
Treasurer's report: ~$1174 in SA funds, ~$60 in petty cash, and
~$3 in Fundraising.
Old Business:
1. Engineering Weekend - The Materials Engineering
department placed first in the Rube Goldberg contest.
2. Trips - Shidoni Foundry (Tesuque, NM) and Advanced
Materials Laboratory (Albuquerque, NM) - We tried to choose
dates for these two tours. We did have a general idea of when
we should not go. For the visit to Shidoni Foundry, it WILL be
on a weekend in April, but not on Saturday, April 17th. For
the AML tour, it WILL NOT be on the week of March 28th.
3. Fundraising - T-shirt - Camden Mullen is working on
a design for a t-shirt. We would appreciate ideas for t-shirt
designs that will appeal to Techies in general.
4. Dr. Inal - Some of you may know that Dr. Inal has
been out of the office because he has had major kidney problems.
John Hardy has been filling in for him in teaching Mate 202.
Dr. Inal has been getting better and there have been a get-well
and birthday card sent to him recently.
5. School to World - This will be on March 13th from 9-3
at the Albuquerque Convention Center. Dr. Burleigh would like for
at least one volunteer to help at the Tech materials engineering
booth that day.
6. Racquetball - This happens on Saturday from 2-4pm.
Ryan Matthews and Margit Jensen are both will to give lessons.
They have been the only ones going. So, please feel free to stop
by and play racquetball!
7. Science Olympiad - This happened on Saturday, February
21st. Dr. Burleigh and Tiffany Rockage talked about the event
that they were in charge of, Storm the Castle. This involved
about 40 trebuchet entries that ranged from being simple to
elaborate.
New Business:
1. Spring Fling - This will be on April 17 and 18. We will
looking into getting a booth for fundraising purposes.
2. Science Fair - This will be on April 3. If you would
like to help in any way, please see Anna Gallegos in Wells Hall 4.
They need help with everything imaginable and are still taking
applications for judges. They ask that you be a junior or senior
with a 3.0 GPA or better to be a judge. Call them at x5678 or
email sciencefair@admin.nmt.edu. ALSO, we agreed to make a special
judging event that is materials related. We will be asking the
Student Association for money for awards.
