B1:   Patents: Awarded and pending
Patent Awarded - During 2007, 2 patents were awarded by the Indian Government. Commercialization of both the
knowhows is in progress for US and global markets. Short abstracts on these inventions are:
- Layered Insulating Building Blocks (LIBB) - LIBB utilizes a type of heat storage known as
“sensitive heat storage.” The primary advantages of using this particular thermal storage method are
availability and low cost. The block acts like a passive thermal storage system, which, when used in walls,
can create a smoother internal environment with fewer thermal fluctuations. He is the sole inventor in this
patent. Click here to see
Description and
Certificate
Currently, a phase change material (PCM) based LIBB is in the process of development in the laboratory.
- A Laser Based System for Vibration Analysis - Patented laser-based system that can accurately measure
extremely small vibrations along structures, which, among other applications, can be used by engineers to
better determine the strength and safety of highway bridges at a very fast rate and at a relatively low-cost.

Patent Pending – Based on his collaborative work with the Air Force Research Laboratory, he filed an US
patent during 2007 for “Energy Attenuation Structures”. Abstract of the disclosure is given bellow.
This invention is related to energy-attenuation structure comprising of a core layer of cellular material.
Substantially most of the cells of the cellular material are open cells, with those cells disposed in the
central portion of the core layer being more open than are those cells disposed in outer portions of the core
layer. The openness of the cells generally decreases from the interior of the core layer in a direction toward
the outer portions. At least some of the cells of the core layer are filled with a liquid. This patent
application contains 18 claims.
