Norton Internet Security tries to block all internet traffic. Therefore you must provide the Internet address and name of programs it should allow to connect to the internet
- Log on as Administrator
- Right click the Norton icon and pick Open Norton Internet Security
- Run Live Update several times until it is up to date
- Pick Norton Internet Security bar on the left
- Pick Personal Firewall on the right
- Click Turn On if it is off
- Click Configure
- Pick the Networking tab and click Add
- For a single IP, pick Individually and enter the address
vpn.nmt.edu = 129.138.4.253, vpn-client-193.nmt.edu = 129.138.7.193- Pick Using a range and enter the upper and lower values in the two boxes e.g., 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.1.254
- Pick the Programs tab
- Scroll through the list of programs and select Permit All where appropriate
- For additional programs, pick Add, and locate other programs

- Pick Spyware and Adware
- Pick Configure
- Check that Spyware and Adware are checked
- For off-campus mail configure e-mail and firewall
- Open Norton, Options
- In the menu, click Norton AntiVirus
- Pick Internet, Email
- Remove check from Scan outgoing Email, OK
- Protection Alert, Select the duration, pick Permanently, OK
- Options
- In the menu, pick Norton Internet Secutity
- Firewall tab, HTTP Port list, click Add
- Add ports 25, 110, 143
- OK
- Main screen, Norton Internet Security
- Click Privacy Control, Click Turn Off
- Close Norton
- Uninstalling Norton AntiVirus 2005
- Start msconfig
- Pick the Startup tab
- If ccApp is present make sure it is checked
- Pick the Services tab
- If present, make sure the following are checked
- Symantec Network Proxy
- Symantec Password Validation
- Symantec Settings Manager
- ISSVC
- Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect Service
- Symantec Network Drivers Service
- Symantec Core LC
- Uninstall Norton from Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel
