see: http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q188/2/04.asp ### You can't install Plus 95 in Win98. Everything from Plus 95 is in Win98 except pinball game. On the Win98 CD there is a inf file to install the pinball game from your Plus 95 CD. x:\\tools\mtsutil\pinball.inf Robert Sheskin ### Anyone know if there is a way to install the Pinball game from the Plus95 CD? Win98 says that you can't install the components on the CD because they will conflict with the ones from win98. But what about the Pinball, it should be fine?? TIA Cheers, Mark ### Insert your Windows 98 CD and go to the [cdrom]:\tools\mtsutil directory. There is a file in there called pinball.inf. Copy that file to a folder on your hard drive (example: My Documents). Eject the Windows 98 CD, Insert the Plus! 95 CD. If your CD-ROM is drive D: find the pinball.inf on your hard drive. Right-click, install on it. If your hard drive is not drive D:, open the pinball.inf and edit the line about drive D: and put in you CD-ROM drive letter. Then close and save. Now, right-click on pinball.inf and press install! It should work! ### Thanks for the info, SHS from nowhere :) This worked fine once I also put the pinball.exe file from the .cab file in the same directory. It's in cab 02 if anyone else needs to do it that way. MS says that the pinball.exe file is on the Win98 CD and to click on it. Just the pinball.inf file is on there. Cheers, Mark ### Yeah..they screwed up that one royally. Copy the .inf file to your desktop temporarily. and remove the "read-only" file attribute under its properties. Try right clicking on it and selecting install from the pop-up menu with the plus cd in the cd-rom drive and its the same as if there really existed a pinball.exe. At one point and time there was but the text file was never updated. Create shortcut to PINBALL.EXE to play. -- Peter Forrest mailto:peter@ttforrest.freeserve.co.uk Windows Help http://www.ttforrest.freeserve.co.uk Marty Lederman wrote in message news:3706CC3A.200FF4E7@idirect.com... > Under Windows 95 games I had Pinball but now that I am using Windows 98, > Pinball is missing. Is there any way to reinstall Pinball in my Windows > 98? ### I've found the easiest way to do this is to copy the pinball.exe file from the Plus CD (it's in plus_2.cab) and put it in a directory with the pinball.inf file from the Win98 CD, then right click on the .inf file and choose install. MS has it right in their directions but they forgot to put the pinball.exe file on there :) Cheers, Mark ### Don, finally got around to trying what you said but no luck.....I did everything up to the press install and nothing happened. Obviously not a critical issue being a game, but sure would appreciate help installing....favorite game of the wife's! Darryl Don P. I think the piece that may be missing here is that you need to have the 95Plus CD in the drive when you try to use the 'updated' inf file to install Pinball. In your case no editting of the inf file is needed, the coded value is for a CD assigned to drive D: So the sequence should be: Copy the Pinball.inf file from the \tools\mtsutil directory of the 98 CD to some place on your hard drive. Edit the drive letter for the layoutfile in the copied inf file (if required, attributes will have to be changed to allow the edit). Put the 95Plus CD in. Right click on the copied/altered inf file and select Install.
