How to Write &
Illustrate – by Betsy Francois – Wednesday October 8, 2003 7:30 pm
Betsy is a local author and artist
from Escondida. She will present a program on her experiences in writing
and publishing her book “There’s a Roadrunner in the Honeysuckle Bush.”
Hear her story of how she decided to write the tale, and then the excitement
and deadline of getting it self-published. The original watercolor
illustrations for the book will be on display, and Andrea Peralta,
co-illustrator will present the paintings.
Collisions in the Solar System – by Dr.
Eileen Ryan – Wednesday November 12, 2003 7:30 pm
Dr. Eileen Ryan, astrophysicist
from NM Tech, will talk about her research examining the likelihood of
interplanetary transfer of microbial life through collisions in the solar
system. This research is on the cutting edge of science with the potential
to benefit of all mankind. She will also address her experiences as a wife,
mother, scientist, and mentor
in a largely
male-dominated profession.

Dona Nowicki is an art instructor at the Community College. She will
provide a demonstration and then there will be a hands on workshop. Come
and play! Everyone will be able to learn to make a glass bead or two that
you get to take home.

Best Years of Your Life – by Dr. Eileen Comstock, M.D. Wed March 10, 2004

Dr. Comstock is a physician in the
emergency room at Socorro General Hospital. Her presentation will focus on
health and wellness issues affecting all of us. She will answer any
questions or discuss concerns that you may have.
Women’s Struggles in the Third World – by
Dr. Rinita Mazumdar – Wed April 14, 2004 7:30 pm
This program is sponsored in part by the New Mexico Endowment for the
Humanities.
Dr. Rinita Mazumdar is faculty in UNM’s Philosophy and Women’s Studies
department. “What happened to women when former colonies in Africa, Latin
America and Asia became independent?” Dr. Mazumdar will present this
question and then discuss globalization and other issues affecting third
world women today. |
